LG dryer belt replacement costs $260–320 total in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura County — OEM belt, correct routing, pulley and roller inspection while the drum is out, lint clearing around the drum and motor areas, test cycle, and 1-year warranty. The $65 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair. We've had calls in Burbank and Torrance where someone was already told it's the motor. We come out, spin the drum by hand — it floats free. Broken belt. $260 instead of $380+. We diagnose before we recommend anything.

How Much Does Dryer Belt Replacement Cost?

$260–320 total for most LG models. The OEM drive belt costs $15–25 — the rest is labor, and here's what that covers:

Diagnosis first. A broken belt and a seized motor look identical from the outside — drum won't spin, dryer sounds like it's running. The cost difference is $260 vs $380+. Before we open anything, we do one test: unplug the dryer, open the door, spin the drum by hand. Floats freely with no resistance = broken belt. Stiff or won't turn = motor or something seized. Thirty seconds, tells us everything.

Model-specific disassembly. Front-loading DLEX and DLGX models require complete front panel removal to access the belt and drum — adds 30–45 minutes compared to older DLE top-access designs. Premium models with steam features and multiple sensors need extra care during disassembly to avoid damaging electronic components. We check the model number before we start to know what we're getting into.

Correct belt routing. The drive belt routes around the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley in a specific pattern for each LG model. Incorrect routing causes the belt to slip immediately or wear unevenly and fail within weeks. We route to LG specification every time.

Pulley and roller inspection. While we have the drum out, we check the idler pulley and drum rollers — they're fully exposed and they wear alongside the belt. Worn drum rollers creating extra friction are often what caused the belt to break in the first place. If the pulley is starting to seize, a new belt on it fails in the same spot. We tell you what we find before we close up and quote separately.

Lint clearing. We clean lint buildup around the drum and motor areas while we're inside — lint that bypasses the trap accumulates in the cabinet over years of use and creates heat pockets that stress components. Takes a few minutes while we're already there.

Belt vs Motor — The Diagnostic That Saves You Money

This is the test we do on every not-spinning call, and you can do it yourself before you call us:

Unplug the dryer. Open the door. Spin the drum slowly by hand. If it rotates freely with almost no resistance — like it's floating — the belt is broken. When the belt is intact, it connects the drum to the motor pulley through tension. Without it, the drum spins free.

If the drum is stiff, grinding, or barely moves — that's a different problem. Could be a seized motor, worn drum bearing, or a foreign object jammed between the drum and cabinet. That's a different price conversation.

We get calls in Glendale and Long Beach regularly where someone was quoted motor replacement elsewhere. We come out, spin the drum — floats free. Belt. A $15–25 part plus labor. If the previous company didn't do this basic test, that's a problem with their process, not yours.

What Causes LG Dryer Belts to Break?

Normal wear over time — belts are wear items, like tires. Most LG dryer belts last 8–12 years under normal use. When they go, they snap cleanly and the drum immediately stops spinning mid-cycle. This is the best-case scenario — clean break, straightforward replacement.

Worn drum rollers creating extra friction — when the rollers wear, the drum drags instead of rolling smoothly. The belt has to work harder against that friction on every cycle, and it wears faster as a result. If we find the belt has shredded rather than snapped cleanly, worn rollers are usually the cause. We quote roller replacement separately at the same visit — rollers are fully exposed anyway.

Seized idler pulley — the idler pulley maintains belt tension. When it seizes, it stops rolling and the belt drags against a stationary surface instead of a turning wheel. Shredded belt in a specific spot, usually near the pulley. New belt on a seized pulley fails again in the same place. We check the pulley on every belt job.

Foreign object caught between drum and cabinet — a coin, button, or small item gets past the drum seal and jams between the rotating drum and the cabinet. Belt breaks from the sudden load. We check for foreign objects during diagnosis.

Should I Replace the Idler Pulley and Rollers at the Same Time?

On machines under 5 years old where the belt snapped cleanly from normal age: belt alone is usually fine.

On machines 7+ years old, or where the belt shredded rather than snapped: almost always worth adding the idler pulley. A shredded belt is telling you something caused it — the pulley is the most likely culprit. Adding the pulley is $15–25 in parts with no extra labor since we're already inside with the drum out. Belt-plus-pulley total: $280–360.

On machines 8+ years old in Pasadena or Thousand Oaks where we find worn rollers alongside the belt: belt-plus-pulley-plus-rollers in one visit runs $320–420 all in. Three repairs for less than one motor replacement. We lay out every option on-site and you decide what makes sense.

A dryer with a new belt and maintained rollers can easily run another 5–7 years. That's the calculation we walk through with every customer when we're on-site.

Can I Replace an LG Dryer Belt Myself?

Mechanically possible if you're comfortable with appliance disassembly. The practical challenge is belt routing — the multi-rib belt on LG dryers wraps around the drum, under the idler pulley, and around the motor shaft in a specific configuration. If you get it wrong, the belt either slips off immediately or tracks at an angle and wears through in days. The LG service manual has the routing diagram — if you're going that route, use it.

What DIY misses: idler pulley condition, roller wear, lint buildup in the cabinet, and whatever caused the belt to fail. We catch root causes during the job. If worn rollers shredded the belt, a DIY belt replacement without addressing the rollers means the new belt fails the same way in a few months.

Questions About LG Dryer Belt Replacement Cost

How much does dryer belt replacement cost?

$260–320 total for LG dryers in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura County — OEM belt, labor, pulley and roller inspection while inside, test cycle, and 1-year warranty. The $65 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair.

How do I know if it's the belt or the motor?

Unplug the dryer and spin the drum by hand. Floats freely with no resistance = broken belt. Stiff or won't turn = motor or something seized. Thirty seconds, tells you which repair you're looking at — $260 vs $380+.

What causes LG dryer belts to break?

Normal wear over time (most common — belts last 8–12 years), worn drum rollers creating extra friction that shreds the belt, a seized idler pulley that the belt drags against, or a foreign object jammed between drum and cabinet causing a sudden overload. We identify which during diagnosis.

Should I replace the idler pulley at the same time?

On machines 7+ years old, or where the belt shredded rather than snapped cleanly — yes. A shredded belt usually means the pulley caused it. New belt on a seized pulley fails in the same spot. Adding the pulley costs $15–25 in parts, no extra labor — drum is already out.

Can I replace the LG dryer belt myself?

Mechanically possible. The challenge is correct belt routing — LG's multi-rib belt wraps in a specific pattern that varies by model. Wrong routing = belt slips or tracks at an angle and fails in days. Use the LG service manual for the routing diagram. What DIY misses: pulley and roller condition, and whatever caused the belt to fail in the first place.

How long does LG dryer belt replacement take?

60–75 minutes for most models. Front-panel DLEX and DLGX models take slightly longer due to the disassembly required. We run a complete test cycle before we leave.

Can you come today?

Yes — call (323) 990-7550. Same-day service across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and Ventura County, typically 2–4 hours from your call.
