OEM LG dryer drum replacement part
OEM LG replacement drum — exact fit for your model, no modifications needed

Drum replacement is the most significant repair we do on LG dryers, and we want to be straight with you about when it makes sense and when it doesn't. The drum is the large rotating cylinder that holds your clothes — when it cracks, chips, or develops sharp edges from a failed bearing or impact damage, it starts leaving marks and snags on fabric, sometimes burn marks from friction points on damaged surfaces. That's usually what brings people to this repair. We handle drum replacements across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and Ventura County, but before we quote it we always look at the full picture — because drum replacement costs put you in territory where the comparison to a new machine becomes real.

Signs the Drum Itself Needs Replacement

There are a few distinct failure modes we see regularly. The most common we encounter in Pasadena and Burbank: a worn-out drum bearing that was ignored for too long. When the rear bearing fails completely, the drum drops and drags against the rear bulkhead. The contact area gets scored and develops sharp edges or chips. Clothes start catching, snagging, sometimes coming out with burn marks from the friction. By the time people call us the drum surface has sustained real damage — it needs replacement.

Second cause: impact damage. Something hard goes through the dryer — a coin, a button, a small tool — and dents or cracks the drum wall. A cracked drum is not repairable. Even a hairline crack will snag delicate fabrics and the crack will propagate over time from heat cycling. Cracked drum means replacement, no exceptions.

Third: rust or corrosion pitting. Less common in LA's dry climate but we see it in garages near the coast in Newport Beach and Malibu where salt air gets in. Rust pitting creates rough patches that damage fabric. Fourth: the drum stops mid-cycle or wobbles because the support structure has failed rather than just the rollers. This is rarer but worth mentioning because it looks similar to dryer not spinning issues that often turn out to be simpler fixes.

Quick self-check before you call: run your hand slowly around the inside of the drum in a dark area with a flashlight, feeling for any rough spots, chips, or edges that catch your fingernail. Also check whether the drum turns freely by hand — if it moves smoothly with normal resistance, you might not need a drum replacement at all. The problem could be worn drum rollers or a loose belt, which are significantly cheaper fixes. We identify exactly what's needed on-site before recommending parts.

Drum vs Rollers vs Bearing — When You Actually Need the Drum

This is the most important question on these calls. Drum replacement is $380–480. Drum roller replacement is $280–350. Bearing replacement is $320–400. All three can produce noise, wobbling, and spinning issues — but only one requires replacing the drum itself.

The drum needs replacement when the drum surface itself is physically damaged — cracked, chipped, scored, or pitted. If the drum surface is intact, replacing the rollers or bearing fixes the problem without touching the drum at all. We've been to jobs in Beverly Hills and Glendale where someone was quoted drum replacement and it turned out to be the rollers. We check the drum surface condition first, every time, before we recommend a drum.

A common scenario: worn bearing causes the drum to drag, drum gets scored, now you need both the bearing and the drum replaced together. That's a $500–650 job all in. We'll tell you that upfront — not after we've started the repair.

The Repair

Drum replacement is the most involved disassembly we do on a dryer. We pull all panels, disconnect every harness, remove the belt, clean lint buildup from the housing, and take out the old drum completely. We install the new OEM drum, check bearing and roller condition while everything is exposed, and replace anything worn before reassembly. There's no point installing a new drum and leaving worn bearings that are going to damage it within a year.

Reassembly requires precise drum alignment within the cabinet — the drum has to sit correctly on the rollers or it wears unevenly from day one. We manually rotate the drum and check alignment before we close anything up, then run a full test cycle. We also verify the heating element clearance while we're inside — a misaligned drum can rub against the element housing on some LG models.

Total time on-site is 90–120 minutes for most LG models. We don't rush it because reassembly done incorrectly means a callback.

What It Costs

Drum replacement runs $380–480 total for most LG dryers. The OEM drum is $100–200 depending on the model and capacity — drum pricing varies more than other parts because size and configuration differ significantly between model series. Labor is $220–260. The $65 diagnostic fee is waived when you approve the repair.

If we find bearings or rollers also need replacement — very common when bearing failure caused the drum damage — we quote those separately on-site. Complete drum-plus-bearing-plus-rollers job typically runs $500–650 all in. We'll be direct about whether that makes sense for your specific machine and its age.

A new comparable LG dryer starts around $800. On a 3–6 year old machine that's otherwise healthy, $380–480 is a clear call. On a 10+ year old machine with multiple issues, we'll walk you through what we find honestly and let you decide. We don't push expensive repairs on machines that are at the end of their life.

Every invoice we send includes a 10% discount code for your next service call. It's our way of saying thanks to returning customers — the code never expires and applies to any LG dryer repair we do at your home.

Questions We Get on These Calls

My LG dryer is leaving marks and snags on clothes — is it the drum?

Run your hand slowly around the inside of the drum feeling for rough spots, chips, or sharp edges. If something catches your fingernail, that's what's catching your clothes. Also check the drum felt seals around the front opening — worn seals can snag fabric and are a cheaper fix than drum replacement. We'll identify exactly what's causing it when we come out.

Can I replace just the drum rollers instead of the whole drum?

Often yes — if the drum surface itself is intact, roller replacement fixes the problem without touching the drum. We check the drum surface first on every noise or spinning call. If it's smooth and undamaged, rollers are the repair. If it's scored or cracked, the drum needs to come out. We only replace what's actually damaged.

Can a cracked drum be repaired rather than replaced?

No. A crack cannot be safely repaired — heat cycling will cause any patch or adhesive to fail and the crack will propagate. A cracked drum needs replacement, full stop.

Will drum replacement fix my dryer not heating?

Unlikely — drum damage rarely affects heating. Heating issues are almost always the thermal fuse, heating element, or gas components. We check all systems during the service visit so if there's a heating issue alongside drum damage we'll find it and quote it separately.

Is drum replacement worth it on an older LG dryer?

On a 3–6 year old machine with no other issues, yes — $380–480 versus $800+ for a new dryer is straightforward. On a 10+ year old machine where we find multiple things wearing out, we'll walk you through the full picture on-site. We'd rather give you an honest assessment than push a $500 repair on a machine that's going to need another $500 in six months.

How long does LG dryer drum replacement take?

90–120 minutes on-site for most LG models. It's the most involved disassembly we do on a dryer. We run a full test cycle before we leave and check for proper rotation and alignment.
